Michiru Madrid have appealed to well-wishers to support the Southern Region Football League first division side in its efforts to fulfil a Carlsberg Cup quarter-final fixture against Moyale Barracks this Saturday at Mzuzu Stadium.

The club’s chairperson and patron Sam Mangasanja said the team is struggling to raise funds to travel to the Northern Region.

“We are excited that we are in the quarter-finals of the cup. But our main challenge is finances. We are having problems in terms of transportation and accommodation. My appeal is to ask for assistance in cash or kind for the team to go and play the game,” he said.

The former Fifa referee said the team’s target is to expose up-and-coming players.

“If you look at the players, most of them have not played at high level. Playing in Carlsberg Cup quarter-final for the first time is a big inspiration for them. We do not want them to miss this opportunity,” said Mangasanja.

The lower league side, which was formed in 2012, has been impressive in the cup as they booted out two Super League sides on their way to the quarter-finals.

They stunned Masters Security 1-0 in round of 32 before providing another upset against Chitipa United in the round of 16.

Meanwhile, in other Carlsberg Cup fixtures, Blue Eagles host Be Forward Wanderers at Civo Stadium on Saturday as well.

On Sunday, Kasungu Police host Red Lions at Civo Stadium while Cobbe Barracks and Nyasa Big Bullets clash at Balaka Stadium. n
